Working Groups
Church Meeting
A meeting, open to all members of the church, is held several times a year to agree on the general policy of the local church. Under the auspices of Church Meeting, 5 working groups take forward the ideas in our Vision Statement.
Church Meetings are normally scheduled for 11.45am, following the Sunday morning service, as and when required. The next meeting is planned for Sunday 17 November, 2019
Elders’ Meeting
Elders are nominated by the Church Meeting from amongst the membership. They are ordained for life and elected to serve for various periods, usually 3 or more years at a time. Their principal role is to share with the Minister in the pastoral care of the members, adherents and young people in the congregation and to co-ordinate the work of the five groups. Currently Summertown URC has 5 serving Elders (see Serving Elders), including a new Elder, Hannah Masterson, who was ordained at the Communion Service on 7th May, 2017 and welcomed to her first Elders’ meeting on the following Thursday 11th May. We also have and 5 non-serving Elders.
The photograph shows 4 serving Elders, Don Moss (sadly since deceased), Margaret Broadbent (at that time representing St Peter’s PCC), Ian Scargill, Beryl Knotts and Jean Stolton, now a non-serving Elder, meeting in Beryl’s sitting room.
The date of the next Elders’ meeting is till be confirmed
