The Fair in full swing

Summer Fair

Saturday, 22nd May 2010, 10.00 am to 2.00pm

Many thanks to all who helped with the the Summer Fair by running a stall, preparing the ploughmen’s lunches or buying things! A good time was had by all, as we enjoyed the marvellous summer weather and raised the excellent sum of £764 towards the Building Fund.

An Evening Entertainment

Saturday, 8th May 2010 at 7.30pm

Friends from St Peter’s joined members and others connected with our own church to put on a most successful and enjoyable evening entertainment in support of our church building project. Dr Ian Scargill proved a most entertaining Master of Ceremonies and the Programme included a range of musical items, humorous monologues and sketches. The magnificent sum of £507 was raised for the building project. Many thanks to Jean Stolton, whose idea it all was and who masterminded the effort, and to all who took part, attended or donated.

Bible Panels Triptych

(previously the Bible Wall-hanging)

In the first year of the URC three-year ‘Vision4Life’ programme our emphasis was on the Bible. As part of this programme we are producing a Bible wall-hanging, now in the form of a Triptych, on which each of the 66 books of the Bible will be portrayed on an A5 piece of coloured felt. Various colours are used to differentiate the specific sections of the Bible canon (Law, History, Poetry, Prophets, Gospels, Acts, Letters, Revelation).

People working on a given book are free to choose the particular theme they wish to illustrate and the means they wish to employ – appliqué, collage, embroidery or other in any combination they wish. The project is being supported by members of all four of our Partnership churches as well as St. Aloysius, St. Aldates and Cowley Road Methodist Church.

Currently (August 2010) all of the panels have been completed and are being photographed so that they can be assembled in an album with explanatory text which will accompany the Triptych wherever it is displayed. During the autumn of 2010 we shall be working on mounting these panels onto the three big sections of the Triptych. This work will be undertaken at All Saints Convent in Cowley under the guidance of Suellen Pedley and her fellow Cathedral embroidnesses.
