Church Groups
Regular Groups
Within the congregation there are a number of Groups – some of these are Study Groups where we seek to grow in our understanding of the Christian Faith and to get to know each other better – others are Working Groups where we seek to put our faith into practice as we come to decisions about what God is calling us to do in the situation in which He has put us.
Vision4Life
This is the next stage in the Catch the Vision programme promoted by the URC to renew the spiritual life of the church, both locally and nationally.
Each congregation was invited to set up three “conversations” during 2008 to explore:
- the effectiveness of the Bible in their church
- the role of prayer in the life of their church
- how comfortable they are talking about their faith to each other and to outsiders.
Here at Summertown we held the first of these “conversations” at a Special Church Meeting on July 27th, 2008. Conversations on the second and third of these topics were held during a Church Away Day on August 23rd at the URC Centre for Reflection at Aston Tirrold.
At the Church Meeting on October 26th, 2008, there was an opportunity to reflect on these three conversations and to consider the next step. At this Meeting the decison was taken to commit ourselves over the next 3 years to the Vision4Life programme, engaging with the primary sources of our Christian faith – with the Bible, with prayer and with the story of the Gospel.
Bible Wall Hanging
This year, 2009, we are concentrating on the biblical theme. In this connection we are planning to make a large wall hanging depicting all 66 books of the Bible. If you enjoy craftwork and wish take a new look at the Bible why not participate in this with us. To find out more click on details.
